Day 14 – A cathedral and the catacombs

Our last full day in Paris started a little later than normal. Jacob had a rough night as he picked up some sort of tummy bug and was not at all well overnight. So, a sleep in was in order.

We headed off to Notre Dame at around 10am. We had secured timed entry for 10:30. I have always dreamed of seeing this cathedral and it certainly did not let me down. So beautiful and the restoration after the fire in 2019 is astonishing. It was very crowded and we only spent about an hour there.

After Notre Dame we headed off to the Paris Catacombs. It is a fascinating place and certainly one of the stranger places I have ever been. After various cemeteries around Paris started to get too big and, in at least one instance, caved in and ended up in some people’s basements, the government decided that they would repurpose some old quarries and remove all the skeletons and bones here. Fascinating. Very morbid. And a bit eerie knowing that thousands of real people’s bones were stacked up in there.

This took us around half an hour to get through. On the way to the station to  obtain a Paris Saint-Germaine guernsey for the boy (hat now makes four we have) we found this.

We found the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe. Shhh, I didn’t tell him we could actually go in and have a look.

We also found this

Because, why not?

Tomorrow we are off to Disneyland.
