Day 11 – Food, glorious food…and some random tower we found

We started our day, this morning, braving the Metro to find the meeting point for our tour (Secret Food Tours). It was a 3-4 hour food tour of the Montmarte area of Paris. We started off with macarons and chocolate with a crossiant chaser. We wandered the area picking up food as we went, learning about the area and the various types of food we were going to be eating. And what a feast we had.

We were eating for around an hour. It was wonderful and delicious. A variety of cheeses, cured meats and pate was sampled, along with baguettes, with home made butter, and wine. I could barely walk after it. We started our tour at 10:30 and we finished eating at 2:15pm.

Afterwards, Jacob and I had a wander to the Basilique du Sacre-Coeur du Montmartre. It has a very steep stairway to get up but, fortunately for me, also a funicular.

Jacob decided to test his fitness. We went up in the funicular and then he went down and back up the stairs. For funsies.

We jumped on a little train thingo that took us around the area for a look, went past the Moulin Rouge (leaving Jacob speachless with the sheer amount of adult shops around there) and ended up back where we started.

Jacob was keen to see the Eiffel Tower so off we went in seach of it. Surprisingly, it is not visible at the end of every street. A train and a bus later and we discovered this:

A bit random, someone sticking a gigantic Lego set in the middle of a park like that but, whatever.

We had tickets to go all the way up, at 9pm. Dinner was to be had first, despite the earlier feast.

After dinner Jacob found a park where people congregated to watch the sunset and the tower light up. It was stunning to watch.

We went up to find this view

Absolutely stunning. I was getting very tired and sore by then so I nixed us walking down the stairs and we took the lift down too.

Tomorrow, is Mona day.
