Day 2 – Pompeii

From the first time I ever heard about Pompeii I have been fascinated by it. How an entire town was lost to a volcano but almost perfectly preserved by the debris. I really don’t have adequate words to say how amazing Pompeii is. The frescos are colourful and bright and beautiful. The mosaic floors are fascinating and intricate. The graffiti is still etched into the walls.

People lived and loved and worked and died here. Just ordinary people doing ordinary things. And then they didn’t. I cannot believe the privilege I have to be able to see it in person. And to be able to bring my son along too.

And he did learn new things. Today was not the day I expected to have a talk about what a prostitute is or what a phallic symbol is but life always brings funny twists and turns.

So many phallic symbols….

Mt Vesuvius is an impressive sight, domineering the skyline over Pompeii.

It must have been an intimidating background to daily life way back then.

I will just add pictures to the rest of this post. We are currently on the train back to Rome and I am tired and lost for words.
